Van Cleef was contracted by the City of Bethlehem for construction of the South Bethlehem Greenway project, Phases 1 and 2. The first two phases of this project, which follows the Bethlehem Philadelphia Trail Corridor, included the construction of a pedestrian safe trail with various enhancement features. This corridor averages sixty feet in width and was the former Norfolk Southern (NS) Railroad right of way. The project revitalized the former rail corridor as a vibrant public destination, incorporating recreational amenities, attractive landscaping, and connected trail facilities that foster recreation, accessibility, and community engagement.​

 Work within the Greenway corridor began at the S. New Street intersection and continued to Hayes Street in the City of Bethlehem, Northampton County, PA. The Phase 1 project improvements terminated at Pierce Street with Phase 2 continuing the improvements to Hayes Street. ​

Van Cleef was involved in the survey and design of the Greenway trail, pedestrian connections/crossings, stormwater management and other miscellaneous improvements. The trail included providing pedestrian and vehicular safe connections at the existing cross streets, with raised/tabled platforms, seating areas, waste and recycling receptacles, signage and landscaping and lighting features. Van Cleef in conjunction with the City’s Planning Consultant and public involvement prepared construction documents, assisted during construction phase, and coordinated design with the City based upon input generated by the North-East region of the PA Department of Recreation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Department of Recreation and Parks, in accordance with DCNR grant funding.​
