PROJECT

Reconstruction and Resurfacing of Old Freehold Road

Township of Toms River | Ocean County, NJ

Van Cleef was contracted by the County of Ocean to provide design services and develop construction and bid documents for the reconstruction and resurfacing of Old Freehold Road, from Route 166 to Church Road in the Township of Toms River, Ocean County, NJ.

Resurfacing consisted of 2” milling and overlay, up to the nearest pavement seam. As the project was considered an alteration of the existing roadways, the existing curb ramps and connecting sidewalks adjacent to the resurfacing, which are located within the County’s right-of-way, were evaluated and upgraded to meet ADA and PROWAG standards. The project also included pedestrian signal upgrades and ADA ramp improvements for all the roadways.

Additionally, two signalized intersections were upgraded for pedestrian accessibility in accordance with current Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), ADA standards, and PROWAG. The signalized intersections included in this contract were Chestnut Streets and Intermediate North Way.

Other improvements along this County roadway included the replacement of sections of deteriorated corrugated metal storm drainpipes, identification and evaluation of drainage issues, resetting manholes, upgrading inlets to bicycle safe grates and eco-friendly curb pieces. The existing drainage systems within the project limits were surveyed and “as-builts” of the drainage networks developed. Field evaluations were conducted to identify issues and develop strategies to implement various improvements along the roadway.
